Hydro Excavation is the process of removing or moving soil with pressurized water. An air conveyance or vacuum is then used to transfer the soil or debris to a debris tank. This allows for a non-destructive and more accurate way to excavate soil and locate underground utilities.

Why is it so hard to dig around utility lines without dedicating an entire day and crew to do so?

Using heavy machinery increases the chance to damage lines

Dedicating a spotter for machinery decreases productivity in other areas

ADVANTAGES

ADVANTAGES OF
HYDROVAC

Hydro Excavation is an alternate method of digging that can be safer, more accurate, and less invasive.

  • Expose underground utilities without damaging them

  • Less invasive method of excavation

  • Excavate congested utilities

  • Cleaner, safer, and faster than traditional approaches

  • Less downtime

  • Able to excavate in difficult to reach locations

  • Daylighting and potholing

  • Excavation techniques performed to industry standards

  • Can be used in conjunction with our private locating services

Hydro excavation can access many difficult areas:

  • Under buildings

  • Embankments

  • Overhead structures

  • Basements

  • Inside of buildings

  • Tight spaces that traditional excavation equipment cannot reach

  • Up against a building

  • Volatile utility areas

A hydrovac unit is a great option to complete prep work prior to horizontal directional drilling. The high-pressure water and powerful vacuum system of a hydrovac is strong enough to clear soil and debris of all types.

When compared with the traditional method of excavation, it has made digging much similar. Traditional methods required manual shovel for digging. Other than this, multiple laborers were required and the process was very time-consuming. Also, the use of heavy machinery could pose safety threats to the laborers and damage the surroundings. But these issues have been eliminated by Hydrovac excavation. It’s an environmentally friendly and a non-mechanical method to get the job done.

Potholing

Utility potholing is used to locate known utilities below surface level by excavating holes. Workers start with a simple pothole of around 8 to 12 inches in diameter and use a vacuum excavator to dig straight down until the utility is found.
